Hussar Coming Soon!

Posted at 03:17 AM on September 10, 2009

I am working on a Front Rank French Napoleonic Hussar General and painting him up as General Fournier.  Apparently he was a capable leader of light cavalry but also an arrogant and difficult man prone to duelling and generally being nasty!!  He was also regarded by some as an anti-Bonapartist and he did fall out of favour with the big guy a few times.  He is looking quite nice at present and I have attempted some fancy free-hand lace on his breeches.  The camera will decide if I have succeeded!  Am halfway through doing his mount and I hope to post him on the site in a week or so.

Now unfortunately I cannot get to Colours at Newbury this year....and I am gutted!!  I have done quite well over the years in the painting competition and it is always a major event in my hobby calender.  So I have been painting with a view to the various categories that I would have entered but now it is all for "nowt" as we northern folk say.  I will also miss the retail therapy which is also a major reason for going.  I love to shop at these type of events.  A chance to actually look at stuff and I spend hours cruising the stalls deciding what to spend my hard earned cash on.  It feels like a huge void in my hobby life not to be going.

So as compensation to myself I have ordered a couple of books and will be placing a smallish order with Front Rank very soon.  Well, it's only right that I try and fill that empty feeling!
